Biography

Karlijn Hendriks is a PhD Candidate at the Expertisecentrum MGGZ. She obtained her Research Master Neuroscience with a specialization in Clinical and Translational Neuroscience at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam in 2022. During her master internship in Copenhagen, she worked with electroencephalogram (EEG) to investigate the developmental path of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in familial high-risk children. Karlijn is intrigued in the translation of neurobiological and electrophysiological research to clinical practice.

Overview of projects within the BRAIC

In March 2023, Karlijn started her PhD in collaboration with the UMC Utrecht and the University of Utrecht, under supervision of dr. Elbert Geuze, prof. dr. Dennis Schutter and dr. Fenne Smits. The aim of the project is to investigate whether brain stimulation (transcranial alternating current stimulation: tACS) could have beneficial effects on the effectiveness of PTSD exposure therapy among military personnel and veterans.
