Biography

Lieutenant Colonel Rene Bal has been working as programmanager at the Brain Research and Innovation centre in Utrecht since June 2022.

After achieving his doctoral diploma in developmental psychology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam in 2005, he has worked several years as a psychologist at Altrecht Child and Youth. In 2008, Rene started working as a military psychologist at the Ministry of Defence. Besides providing care for active military personnel and veterans, both within and outside of operational circumstances, he also aims to increase their mental resilience. In 2013, he was deployed to Afghanistan as a military psychologist.

From 2018 until 2022, René researched sleep experience in military personnel for his clinical psychology education under the guidance of dr. A.D. de Weijer. In this research, he examined the effect of monitoring sleep on sleep experience.

Activities

Within the Brain Research and Innovation Centre, René fulfills an advising role in the area of knowledge and implementation. Furthermore, he contributes to the construction, establishment, and development of knowledge management. He is also responsible for mapping and maintaining partnerships, both within and outside the Ministry of Defence, nationally and internationally.
