Introduction
Anne-Marije Schat is a psychiatrist and researcher at the Military Mental Health Expertise Centre (MGGZ). Her work focuses on strengthening mental health skills in young adults and improving the early detection of stress and trauma.
She also explores how the Dutch Ministry of Defence could revise its care and treatment offerings for new generations of service members by giving young adults a voice in sharing their experiences with psychological challenges, care needs, and the support they have received.
Anne-Marije completed her medical training (2007) and specialised as a psychiatrist (2012) at UMC Utrecht and has been part of the Military Mental Health Service since 2013. From 2019 to 2023, she served as Director of Care and Deputy Commander of the MGGZ, focusing on reducing barriers to care for military personnel and implementing evidence-based treatments for stress- and trauma-related disorders.
Currently, she combines research with clinical practice at the MGGZ, the Military Rehabilitation Centre, and UMC Utrecht. Her areas of expertise include psychotrauma, mood disorders, and personality disorders. She has a registration as senior schema therapist (VSt).
